What is the fresco?

Fresco (in Italian – affresco - fresh), Affresco – is painting on wet plaster, it is one of the techniques of wall painting. The basis of manufacture of digital frescos is the technology which was used during the times of Michelangelo. For manufacture of frescos the ancient craftsmen would use lime preliminary treatment of which would last for several years. To date the term “fresco” refers to any wall painting independently of its techniques. Craftsmen of our time at manufacture of frescos use contemporary materials, but the principle when plaster is applied on natural pigment has remained unchanged.

Digital fresco is an advanced offer at the market of wall coatings which combines the perfect visual effect and the speed of performance. Since Affresco frescos are the works of art, they combine the experience of ancient craftsmen and advanced materials; they are long-lasting, not subject to ageing and are moisture resistant. Ninety per cent of the works at manufacturing of frescos is manual work of Affresco artists and craftsmen.

Technology of fresco manufacture:
  1. Image creation. All the images from Affresco catalogue are created by our artists which allows reaching the maximum quality of the image at fresco manufacture.

  2. Over the nonwoven canvas a layer of texture is applied which is the basis of the future fresco on which then the image is applied.
  3. Drawing of details. All the details on the ready made fresco are drawn by the artist.

  5. At manufacture of frescos on «Craquelure» texture during the final stage the craftsman smoothes out cracks with marble chips which gives the fresco appearance of the ancient canvas.

Affresco employs only genuine professionals who are aware of all the details and secrets which allow creating their chef-d'oeuvre. The fresco gladdens with its colouring for a long time and as opposed to other techniques, for instance oil painting, it is almost not subject to the impact of time and does not require permanent restoration.
